Season Review

Heading into 2019, expectations were sky-high for SKC fans. Fresh off of securing the top spot in the Western conference and being one half away from going to the final game of MLS Cup, Sporting returned a bunch of veterans and brought in some new players to replace and improve upon the departures. We’ll talk about the players later, but suffice to say: they didn’t. Even the most pessimistic SKC fan wouldn’t have predicted the bottom falling out quite as hard as it did in 2019, causing SKC to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2010. It seems that everything that could go wrong, did. The fact that the season started off as well as it did made the collapse all the more painful.
We began our season in CONCACAF Champions League, beginning with the toughest draw of any MLS team: Toluca. Since SKC was the lower seed, we started our campaign at home, with the second leg of the contest being at Toluca. The result? 3-0, SKC. Goals from Nemeth, Gerso, and Ilie. Nemeth looked like the goalscorer we needed at the striker position, Gerso looked like he was going to put it all together with a goal and an assist, and Ilie did this. It was as great of a result as we could have imagined, heading down to Mexico with a commanding lead and no away goals conceded. Everyone expected a cagy, defensive match where we held on for dear life and advanced. Instead, Sporting KC scored in the 8th minute and never looked back, ending the game with a 2-0 victory and heading on to the next round 5-0 on aggregate. At one point, Toluca’s own fans were mocking their team, shouting “Ole!” every time SKC completed another pass. It was hailed around the league, with articles written about the historic win and pundits calling Sporting KC potentially the best pure possession team in MLS history. It’s safe to say that the hype was very real. Next up: MLS play.
We opened our MLS campaign against LAFC, who finished third in the West in their expansion year and were widely considered to be a real contender in 2019 (and for good reason). The game took place three days after the victory in Toluca, and three days before we were scheduled to travel to Panama to take on Independiente in the next round of CCL. Peter Vermes opted to play his full first choice XI in California, wanting to fight for as many points as possible to avoid digging a hole early. It would have worked, too, if it wasn’t for a meddling Diomande, who broke the 1-1 tie in the 90+4 minute to give LAFC 3 points. It was a disappointing result, but not cause for any panic. LAFC was good, SKC was tired, all was fine. Fontas suffered a hip pointer and was subbed out, but that’s no big deal. Oh, how naive we were. We didn’t know what was coming. Next up: Independiente. We traveled down to Panama and brought a 2-1 deficit, as well as an injured Salloi, home. SKC beat Philadelphia 2-0 in the home opener, calming concerns that things were going wrong. The home leg of the Independiente contest had SKC cruise to a 3-0 win, 4-2 on aggregate, and backup striker Hurtado was hurt, undergoing knee surgery and given a 2-3 month timetable for return.
The next two games were MLS play: a 1-1 tie with Colorado made notable by former SKC striker Diego Rubio scoring the opener before Russell’s incredible free kick salvaged a draw for SKC. There was also the 7-1 home victory over Montreal. Nemeth hat trick, Busio goal, tons of fun. Unfortunately for SKC fans, that was just about the last bit of fun for a long while. Their next win wouldn’t come until the end of May against Seattle. The next CCL matchup was against Monterrey, who completely obliterated SKC to the tune of 5 goals to nil. In the first leg. The second leg wasn’t much better, with Monterrey beating SKC in KC 5-2, for an aggregate score of 10-2.
The rest of the season was very bad and I won’t spend much time on it. Two wins against Seattle was certainly nice, but there were way too many embarrassing scorelines. 1-4 against SJ, 0-3 against Atlanta, 1-5 against LAFC, 2-7 against LAG, and 0-6 against FC Dallas all stand out. I’ll get into the players, but it’s safe to say that injuries completely and utterly destroyed SKC’s season. At one point, there were 6 players healthy enough to practice. SKC earned 1 point from the 6 games they played after August to close out the season.

11/19 Medranda Midfielder Removed: Picked in Expansion Draft

11/21 Nemeth Forward Removed: Contract Expired
11/21 Hasler Defender Removed: Contract Expired
11/21 Wallace Defender Removed: Contract Expired
Jimmy Medranda: Sporting loses another fan favorite in the expansion draft, as part of a deal including leaving Jimmy exposed and trading Zendejas to Nashville SC. Jimmy was always the heir apparent to Seth Sinovic, while also being able to fill in pretty much anywhere on the pitch. His 1v1 ability will not be forgotten, nor will his incredible goals. Unfortunately, injury really robbed him of a lot of time.
Adrian Zendejas: The three-year backup to Melia moved on in a trade with Nashville SC. He only made one appearance with the senior team, starting the 1-1 tie with FC Cincinnati.
Seth Sinovic: Seth was acquired by SKC in 2011 from the New England Revolution. Since then, he’s made 210 appearances for us before having his option declined this offseason. He was signed in free agency by the Revs. I think every SKC fan still believes that at some point before the end of the season, we’ll see Seth back on the team and winning the starting left back position. After featuring there for so long, and fighting off so many challengers, it just makes sense.
Benny Feilhaber: Another long-time SKC veteran, Benny returned this season from his stint with the Colorado Rapids while SKC was in the midst of its horrible injury crisis. He started 13 games, and gave us some life when we needed it most. Benny had his option declined and remains a free agent.
Gedion Zelalem: The extremely talented midfielder never found his footing under Vermes, only managing 5 starts for the injury-riddled SKC. His reportedly very expensive option was declined, and he was picked up by NYCFC.
Krisztian Nemeth: Oh, what could have been. Nemeth had a promising start to his second stint with SKC, scoring 7 goals in his first 11 regular season games in 2019, and 4 in CCL. Unfortunately, he would only score once the rest of the way en route to Vermes choosing to not renew his contract. Nemeth is currently without a team.
Nicolas Hasler: Hasler was signed for one year to be defensive/midfield depth, and he did just that in 2019, making 9 appearances for SKC. Hasley now plays for FC Thun of the Swiss Super League.
Rodney Wallace: Rodney Wallace was signed as wing/left back depth for 2019. He had one start, playing 27 minutes before suffering a season-ending injury. Wallace is currently without a team.

Transfers In

11/26 Sanchez GK Added: Selected in Re-Entry Draft
12/4 Puncec Defender Added: Signed through 2021
12/9 Shelton Forward Added: Signed through 2022
12/10 Pulido Forward Added: Signed through 2023
1/10 Dia Defender Added: Signed for 2020 with options through 2022
1/13 Townsend Midfielder Added: 2020 MLS Super Draft
1/13 Kasak Defender Added: 2020 MLS Super Draft
1/23 Kinda Midfielder Added: One-Year Loan
2/4 Dick GK Loaned to USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC for the 2020
2/14 Reid Defender Added: On loan from West Ham
Richard Sanchez: Sanchez was acquired via the re-entry draft from the Chicago Fire after making no appearances in 2019 for them. He will serve as backup to Tim Melia while Dick gets experience on loan and Pulskamp starts for SKCII.
Roberto Puncec: Puncec was out of contract after playing for HNK Rijelca in the Croatian league. He appears to be the starting right center back next to Matt Besler, starting there in every preseason match so far. Puncec has played extensively in Europe between Israel, Croatia, and the 2. Bundesliga.
Khiry Shelton: Shelton returns after a short stint with SC Paderborn, during which he rarely featured and never scored for the senior team, while suffering an injury which caused him to miss substantial time. While Shelton was injured, Paderborn earned promotion to the Bundesliga, which seems to have proved too high of a level for Shelton. Nonetheless, he’s back in KC and appears to be much improved technically, and figures to be the backup striker and potentially a feature on the wing.
Alan Pulido: The Striker that was Promised. He’s here. Sporting KC ownership finally opened their pocketbooks, spending a rumored $9.5m on the Mexican striker who won the golden boot in Liga MX’s 2019 Apertura. Pulido appears to be the perfect striker for what Vermes wants, with a high defensive workrate, combination ability, positional flexibility, and a deadly finish. Expectations are sky-high for the player who more than doubled SKC’s historical net spend.
Amadou Dia: Dia returns to SKC after a three year stint in the USL with Phoenix. He will be the backup left back behind Luis Martins.
Jaret Townsend: Hey look a draft pick!
James Kasak: Hey look another draft pick!
Gadi Kinda: I Gadi say, this guys’ name seems Kinda great for puns. Kinda was acquired on loan from Israeli club Beitar Jerusalem. He had enjoyed a breakout season in 2019, scoring 7 goals and 4 assists from midfield in 16 appearances. The Ethiopian has yet to feature for the senior Israeli national team, despite appearing for their youth teams. He was called up for EURO 2020 qualifying. Kinda appears to be midfield depth, but is sure to push for a starting spot this season. He has impressed in preseason with his runs, footwork, and work rate.
Winston Reid: The 31 year old New Zealand center back is on loan from West Ham, who he’s made 222 competitive appearances for. Reid hasn’t made a senior competitive appearance since March 2018 due to injury. With almost two years off injured, this move appears to be a gamble that he can regain his form and once again become a top defender. If he does, he will undoubtedly be cemented in the SKC backline.

Returning Players

The Vets

Roger Espinoza: A bulldog in the central midfield, Honduran international Roger Espinoza was drafted by Sporting KC in 2008. Apart from two seasons he spent in England with Wigan, Espinoza has been a mainstay in the middle of the field, playing as a box-to-box destroyer. Roger lost a chunk of 2019 to injury, and another chunk to red cards (three, tying his personal “best” and moving into the league lead for total). He also proved just how much he means to this team, as SKC went on a terrible run when he was out. As Peter Vermes continues to search for a replacement for the 33 year old, expect Roger to continue to get plenty of minutes.
Matt Besler: Drafted in 2009 by the then-Kansas City Wizards, hometown hero Matt Besler has long been a stalwart in Peter Vermes’ defense. Apart from a down year in 2016, Besler has been one of the most consistent players in recent memory, but he’s 33 years old and his contract expires at the end of the year. Could this be the last year we see Besler in an SKC uniform? He looks to be entrenched as a starter and our captain, but it’s uncertain how much longer that will last with a potentially deep CB room behind him.
Graham Zusi: Zusi has been a near-constant presence on the wing for Sporting since he was drafted in 2009, though since the beginning of 2017 he has become Peter Vermes’ go-to right back. 2019 saw him named an MLS All Star, although most believe that honor was a year too late and not quite deserved this year. Regardless, how they told him was one of the highlights of the season. Graham looks to be the starter at right back yet again, but Lindsey is gunning for his position and Zusi may not be able to hold him off for much longer. Zusi’s contract runs through 2021.
Tim Melia: The 2017 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year should need little introduction at this point, nor should his storied career move from Rochester Rhinos’ backup to MLS pool goalkeeper to his current tenure with Sporting Kansas City. While Melia, along with the rest of the backline, performed not very well in 2019, he will look to regain his top form as the starter between the sticks.

The New Core

Johnny Russell: Scottish winger Johnny Russell returns for his third year in Kansas City having made himself a favorite both on and off the field. Most often deployed as an inverted right winger, his strength and skill terrorized defenses as he contributed 9 goals and 9 assists in 28 games last season. Look for him and his pet turtle to continue to put the fear of god in defenders from the right side of the field.
Ilie: The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder is a product of the Barcelona academy and played for Barcelona B for five seasons before a short stint in 2. Bundesliga with 1860 Munich. After joining SKC in 2017, he locked down the starting defensive midfield spot, starting 67 of 68 league games over two years and becoming an essential part of the team’s midfield structure. 2019 saw Ilie start 27 games, and when he was on the field he seemed much less effective than in years past. An All-Star in 2018, Ilie will look to regain that form this year.
Felipe Gutiérrez: Chilean midfielder Felipe Gutierrez was probably the MVP of the team in 2019, scoring 12 and assisting 3. Guti was behind only Melia in minutes played, and could be found at all three midfield positions throughout the year, although Vermes obviously prefers him at the attacking midfield spot. His ability and versatility means that it’s a safe bet Guti Gang will be in contention for the most starts on the team, as well as team MVP.

Something to Prove

Andreu Fontas: Fontas, uh, didn’t exactly work out in his first year. His $1m salary was part of the reason why Ike left, and then Fontas only started 10 games, a number of which were very bad, before getting injured for several months. Once he was healthy, Vermes declined to include him in the 18, and Fontas had surgery as soon as the season was over, which will keep him out for roughly the first month of this season. It’s widely speculated that the front office plans to buy out Fontas’s contract, considering the additions of Puncec and Reid and the fact that Fontas doesn’t appear to be in Vermes’s plans even when healthy. The biggest stumbling block for that is his contract: guaranteed at $1m through 2022, it would cost $3m to buy him out and get the cap space that he takes up back. The fans want him gone, so we’ll see if the ownership continues the “injection of capital” and buys out his contract.
Botond Barath: The Hungarian center back entered 2019 as the third center back on the depth chart, but ended up starting 20 games, behind only Matt Besler. Barath wasn’t a disaster, but he certainly didn’t distinguish himself as part of Sporting’s backline. Heading into 2020 it appears that he will go back to being a third or fourth option on the depth chart, capable of stepping up when needed but unlikely to be a difference maker.
Graham Smith: The 24 year old draft pick has yet to impress for the senior team, starting 10 games and giving up 20 goals last year (including 7 to Zlatan and the Galaxy). Barring another injury disaster, Smith will likely find himself playing the whole season with SKCII, as the fifth center back on the depth chart.
Luis Martins: Brought in to replace Seth, Martins appears to have done what nobody has done before: actually replace Seth. Starting the final 9 games of the season, Martins flashed his potential on offense and appeared capable on defense. Martins will start at left back this season and will hope to provide that spark of offense on the left side that Vermes has been searching for, while improving upon 2019’s truly terrible defense.
Daniel Salloi: After leading the team in goals in 2018, Salloi suffered a pretty severe decline in production, only managing to find the back of the net once, in the second to last game of the season. By the way the team celebrated, you’d think we had just won the cup. Salloi was another player who lost time due to injury, getting hurt in CCL against Independiente. Daniel will surely look to rediscover his form this season, which should see him draw plenty of starts at left wing.
Gerso Fernandes: Gerso was another player hampered by injuries, breaking his left wrist in a game against New England. He had seized the starting role at left wing from Salloi after Daniel’s run of poor form, but wasn’t a clear-cut starter when he returned from injury. Gerso possesses speed that nobody else on the roster has, so he will definitely have a role to play. The battle between him and Salloi for the left wing remains open, and both will surely see plenty of minutes.
Eric Hurtado: Guess what happened to Hurtado in 2019? You’re right, he was injured. Sporting’s backup striker lost most of the season to injury, starting only 8 games, all after the season was pretty much over. It appears that the 29 year old will fall to third on the center forward depth chart.

The Kids

Jaylin Lindsey: After starting 6 games in 2018, Lindsey only started once for SKC in 2019. The reason? You guessed it - he got injured. Turning 20 this year, Lindsey will look to unseat Graham Zusi at right back, something that should be easy if Zusi plays as poorly as he did in 2019. Sporting a ton of personality, Lindsey is a fan-favorite and should at least get minutes rotationally, assuming he stays healthy.
Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal: Long-touted as the future of SKC’s defensive midfield, Kuzain missed his chance to get minutes with the first team by getting injured right when SKC needed players the most. Instead, he spent the entire season with SPR, often playing further ahead in the midfield than his preferred position. His passing accuracy of 88.4% shows his skill with the ball, and the 21 year old homegrown will look to have a breakout year with SKC II and potentially get minutes in the senior team’s crowded midfield.
Gianluca Busio: Sporting KC’s most promising prospect, 17-year-old Homegrown player Gianluca Busio, was the second-youngest player to ever sign an MLS contract, and is the second-youngest goal scorer in MLS history (thanks a lot, Freddy Adu). In his second full year as a professional, Busio took advantage of SKC’s injury situation by staying healthy, increasing his minutes from 153 in 2018 to 923 in 2019. While Busio occasionally looked lost, he more often did not look out of place playing with men significantly older than him. While he didn’t lock down a starting spot, Busio will look to improve on his minutes for the second consecutive year as part of a very crowded midfield.
Cameron Duke: The 11th homegrown player in SKC history, the 19 year old midfielder has been in the Sporting Academy since 2012, and has been part of the US youth national team at the U-14, U-15, U-16, and U-18 levels. Duke will almost certainly spend the entire year with SKC II.
Felipe Hernandez: Felipe Hernandez is the first player to go from a SKC Academy affiliate, to the SKC Academy, to the Swope Park Rangers and then to the first team. He’s been touted as the heir apparent to Roger Espinoza, and often looked the part while drawing tons of starts with SPR. He scored eight goals for the USL team, second only to the center forward. Hernandez has the potential to see some midfield time with the senior team, but look to see him spend the bulk of his time with SKC II
Tyler Freeman: The youngest player signed to the first team, Freeman spent the whole season fighting for minutes on a poor SPR team, starting only 12 games. The 17 year old forward will look to improve his minutes and production with SKC II this year.

2020 Preview

Things to Watch

WE GOT A STRIKER Mission accomplished. After spending years and years waiting for the ownership to open up their wallets and pay for a big-time number 9, they finally did it. And boy, did they do it. Sporting’s net spend on transfer fees heading into this offseason was approximately $4m. Alan Pulido reportedly cost $9.5m, or more than double that. If he can live up to his price tag and capitalize on the opportunities SKC regularly produces, Pulido will score a ton of goals.
What’s a defense? Unfortunately, all the goals in the world don’t mean much without a competent defense to back them up. 2019 was a horrible year for SKC’s usually stellar defense. They let in 67 goals, a mark only beaten by FC Cincinnati. Vermes has responded by bringing in two new center backs, Puncec and Reid, keeping Martins around after he started the last run of games last year, and letting everyone else get healthy over the long, long offseason. If SKC wants to be back in the postseason, the defense will have to massively, massively improve.
#PlayYourKids
The HashtagPlayYourKids movement had its ups and downs with SKC in 2019. A couple of kids missed out on opportunities due to injury, most notably Jaylin Lindsey and Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal. Busio managed to improve his MLS minutes substantially, however, and SKC fended off a couple of suitors to hold on to the extremely promising midfielder. If Vermes wants to boast one of the best academies in MLS, and he does, then he’ll have to give the kids some more time with the senior team, something he’s been criticized for not doing in the past. The players with the clearest path to minutes are Busio in the midfield and Lindsey at right back, along with Salloi at left wing, so expect to see those three to get a solid amount of time. There are seven total homegrowns on the roster, including Busio, Lindsey, Kuzain, Cameron Duke, Tyler Freeman, Felipe Hernandez, and Daniel Salloi.
Do the vets still have it? As the corollary to #PlayYourKids, SKC still has a number of older players on the team. The biggest question of this year might be “Was 2019 an aberration due to injury, or a sign of things to come for Besler, Roger, and Zusi?” While Vermes seems to be betting, at least initially, that the older guys still have what it takes, there are capable and hungry replacements waiting in the wings for them to slip up. This is likely the last window for trophies for those three all together, so they will have a strong desire to work hard and prove that they’re not completely over the hill yet.

Prognosis

There are a lot of open questions for this Sporting KC team, which means the range of outcomes is going to be wide.
Realistic Best Case Scenario Turns out, 2019 was entirely the fault of historic levels of injury! Sporting looks like the 2018 and early 2019 team, dominating with the ball, snuffing out counter-attacks, and scoring at will by committee. The team returns to the top of the Western Conference and is competitive throughout the playoffs, although not quite doing enough to win the whole thing - the roster construction isn’t quite there. The team does bring home a trophy, though, winning the USOC in a thrilling game.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario The veterans really are past it, the kids aren’t quite ready, and injuries do not stay away. The back line remains mediocre and Pulido can’t put the offense on his back. SKC misses the playoffs for the second year in a row, and calls for Peter’s job get much, much louder.
Realistic More Probable Scenario Injuries hurt in 2019, but they clearly weren’t the only problem. The defense improves from last year, but is just league average. The midfield is much better than last year, and 5 players play more than 1000 minutes, keeping everyone fresh and competitive. The front three really improves with the addition of Pulido, and SKC scores a ton of goals and is generally fun to watch. It’s enough to put SKC back in the playoffs, and even win a playoff game! Unfortunately, that’s where things end, as Sporting falls in the second round of the playoffs in a competitive game. They make a USOC run, but don’t win that either.

2020.02.16 17:43 defendaloha A clear figure in the motion detection video thumbnail but nothing in the video?

A good friend of mine recently shared the events that led to this photo, all of which happened to a good friend of his named Kimberly. She came home sometime in the hours of 1-2 in the morning.
As she was about to head upstairs to let her father know she had arrived home safely, she heard a noise; weird enough for her to do a quick walkthrough of the main floor before actually heading upstairs. As she reached the top, the alarm system went off. “WARNING! An intrusion has been detected…” appeared on the phone screen. Kimberly’s father came out of his bedroom and tried to hurry the entirety of his family to an upstairs room so he could check out the situation. He checks the house and doesn’t find anything odd with any of the rooms in the house until he opens the inside door to the garage. The garage door to the outside was wide open. During the commotion, Vivint phones dad to see if everyone was safe. Although the garage door was open, there was no intruder or immediate danger to report on. After ending the call, locking the house, and arming the system again, a second notification appears on their phone.
Kimberly’s family has a premium package with Vivint’s services. Included in this package are motion sensing cameras that you can set to program at certain hours or for specific dates for when your family is away for extended periods of time. When these cameras detect motion at its designated time, it will clip and send the recording to the user’s phone. The second notification opened up to the following:
SCREENSHOT
All of this happened in August of 2019 and there have been no answers yet. Our friend shared this story on our podcast a month ago. Kimberly was wearing nothing similar to what the figure was wearing. But what about the video?? PLAY THE VIDEO! When played, there is nothing that appears in the entire clip. Even when you click and drag to scrub through frame by frame, nothing appears. The only thing we have is the thumbnail of the video.
TL;DR: Friend comes home late. Alarm goes off in the house. Moments later they get an alert on their phone with this video. Figure shown only appears in the thumbnail and nowhere in the video.
EDIT 1: Sorry folks, I don’t have the video since that’s all my homie had, but he’s trying to get it from Kimberly. Also, I’m not sure why the times between the first and second notification are an hour apart. I’ve just texted my friend to ask Kimberly and we’ll wait on a response.
EDIT 2: I texted my friend and asked him:
  1. what’s the relation between kimberly and your wife?
  2. are they your neighbors in daybreak?
  3. are you able to get the video?
  4. why are the times between the notification and the “camera online-offline” an hour apart?
This was his response

One of the most prominent bands to emerge from the Southern California punk scene, blink-182 gained mainstream success in the early 2000s. Arriving in the wake of the pop-punk explosion set off by Green Day, blink-182 gained a large fan base with their hooky, high-energy songs. At a time when competition with teen pop and nu-metal was not unheard of, they broke through with their third album, 1999's Enema of the State, releasing a steady stream of hits, bolstered by humorous, tongue-in-cheek music videos that were popular in the waning days of MTV's musical programming. Though the pop-punk trend faded, blink-182 have remained chart favorites, scoring five Top Ten albums and two number one Billboard 200 hits, including 2016's California.
Blink-182 formed in the suburbs of San Diego, California around guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott Raynor. Originally known as simply Blink, the band debuted in 1993 with the self-released EP Fly Swatter. After releasing the album Buddha in 1994, the trio signed to Grilled Cheese/Cargo and released Cheshire Cat the following year. The threat of a lawsuit from a similarly named Irish band forced them to change their name to blink-182, but that did not slow them down: the group earned a higher profile by touring the world with Pennywise and NOFX on the 1996-1997 Warped Tour, in addition to appearing on innumerable skate/surf/snowboarding videos.
The third blink-182 LP, Dude Ranch, was jointly released in 1997 by Cargo and MCA. Dude Ranch expanded the group's audience and went platinum by the end of 1998, due in part to the popularity of the infectious teen anthem "Dammit (Growing Up)." The group also officially signed with MCA, which released the band's fourth album, Enema of the State, in the summer of 1999. The album, produced by Jerry Finn (Green Day, Rancid), also welcomed a new member into the trio's ranks; Travis Barker, formerly with the Aquabats, settled in on drums after Raynor left midway through a 1998 U.S. tour. Enema was greeted with almost immediate success, and helped the band achieve the mainstream status of toilet-humored pop-punk kings that Dude Ranch had only hinted at. Driven by the commercially successful singles "What's My Age Again?," "All the Small Things," and "Adam's Song," music videos for the three songs (whose clips included themes of streaking and boy band spoofs) were MTV smashes as well.
After selling over four million copies of Enema of the State, the trio played on with the limited-edition release The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back) in fall 2000. The album featured their radio hits in a live setting, intertwined with their quirky sense of humor as well as the new song "Man Overboard." Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, issued in spring 2001, saw the band return to their SoCal punk roots and became their first number one album in the U.S. Maturity, of a sort, came with 2003's self-titled album, released on Geffen. Not only did the album sport a song ("All of This") that featured Robert Smith of the Cure, but "I Miss You" also topped the modern rock chart in 2005. In February 2005, however, popular as ever and seemingly indestructible, blink-182 unexpectedly announced they would be going on an "indefinite hiatus," supposedly to spend more time with their growing families. Asking fans for help in selecting tracks, the group issued Greatest Hits that November.
The band also continued with other projects. Barker -- who had previously released an album with DeLonge as Boxcar Racer -- continued playing with the Transplants and running his clothing company, Famous Stars and Straps. His family was also spotlighted in the MTV reality show Meet the Barkers. Hoppus carried on with his Atticus fashion venture and began producing -- starting with Motion City Soundtrack's Commit This to Memory -- and hosting his own podcasts. He further began work with Barker in a new band, Plus 44. DeLonge also continued work with his lifestyle clothing company, Macbeth, and formally announced his new project, Angels and Airwaves, that fall.
While still on hiatus in 2008, the group endured a handful of personal setbacks including the death of longtime producer Jerry Finn, who suffered a brain hemorrhage and subsequent heart attack, eventually taken off life support and passing away that August. Then in September, both Barker and frequent collaborator DJ AM were seriously injured in a plane crash in which both pilots and two of Barker's associates died. It ultimately took 11 months for Barker to fully recover from his injuries and led to the drummer suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The crash prompted Hoppus and DeLonge to reconnect with the drummer in support of his recovery, and in 2009, blink-182 announced that they were reuniting, hitting the road with Weezer for their reunion tour. They went into the studio later that year and began laying down the groundwork for a new album, which would be plagued by delays until 2011, when they were eventually able to release their sixth studio album, Neighborhoods.
Despite growing evidence of friction within the band, blink-182 toured throughout much of the rest of 2011, joining My Chemical Romance, Rancid, and Against Me! on the tenth annual Honda Civic Tour. A 20th anniversary tour found the group members appearing together again in 2012. Later that year, blink-182 parted with Interscope, a transition they marked with the release of their self-produced Dog Eating Dogs EP.
Following a string of sold-out dates in Los Angeles in 2013, as well as headlining appearances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2014, blink-182 began discussions concerning a follow-up to Neighborhoods. However, in January 2015, Hoppus and Barker were quoted in Rolling Stone saying that DeLonge had left the band and announcing the possibility that Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba would fill in for the guitarist at future shows. DeLonge then quickly responded via Facebook that he had not quit blink-182, and that any decision for the band to move forward was made without him. In the end, Skiba officially joined blink-182 and the band entered the studio at the end of the year to begin recording new songs. The first taste from the new trio was "Bored to Death," which was released in April 2016. Their seventh LP, California, was released that summer and debuted at number one, just before they embarked on a tour featuring All Time Low, A Day to Remember, and All-American Rejects. Also in 2016, blink-182 released the career-spanning vinyl anthology Box Set, which featured all six of the band's studio albums prior to California. Following their tour duties, the band returned to the studio and in 2019 issued the single "Blame It on My Youth. Also that year, Hoppus debuted Simple Creatures, his side project with All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth.
Preforming, Enema of the State
MCA gave the band its first professional recording budget, and Blink-182 began work on Enema of the State in October 1998. The trio had not been in a studio in two years and were anxious to record new material. Blink-182 returned to DML Studios to write new songs, where the band had previously spent time writing songs for their second record, Dude Ranch. The three spent much more time in the studio than on previous records, allowing them to try many different things. Barker would drive down each day from Riverside to take part in the writing process. Very satisfied with the results, the band completed writing in two weeks. Though Barker helped write the songs on Enema of the State, only Hoppus and DeLonge received songwriting credits, as Barker was technically a hired musician, not official band member. Don Lithgow, owner and operator of DML Studios, recalled that the trio's celebrity had increased considerably during the recording process: "[It] was different than their other sessions — girls hanging around outside, calling their friends on cell phones. All the kids wanted autographs. ... They'd unlock the doors and let kids into the studio, which most bands would never do."Due to the success of Dude Ranch, the label and band management had high expectations.
When the band completed writing and recording demos for the songs, the three headed to Los Angeles to record drum tracks at Chick Corea's Mad Hatter Studios in January 1999. Barker recorded the majority of his drum tracks in eight hours. The recording process for the album was completed over a period of four months, and production was handled at several production facilities in southern California, including Signature Sound and Studio West in San Diego, Big Fish Studios in Encinitas, and Conway Recording Studios and The Bomb Factory in Los Angeles. For Barker, the album was "fueled by black coffee and Marlboro Lights"; he was hopeful for the album as the band were well-rehearsed and no time would be wasted. To record Enema of the State, Blink-182 turned to punk rock producer Jerry Finn, who previously worked on Green Day's breakthrough album, Dookie (1994). Hoppus and DeLonge were impressed with his work when they recorded "Mutt" for its placement on the American Pie soundtrack. Finn was harder on the trio to record better takes, and Hoppus credited Finn with knowing a great deal about punk rock music, but also helping the band establish a more pop-inspired sound. Finn came with an array of amps, effects and equipments; previously the band were forced to rent such equipment. Barker kept attempting to irritate Finn by sneaking in vibraslaps, which Finn hated. In addition, the band had so much fun with Finn that there were days when very little work was accomplished: "Recording can get pretty monotonous, but at least we could laugh with Jerry," recalled Hoppus. "A pretty typical day would involve multiple takes for one part of one song, and then everyone would get naked and jump on Jerry." The band chose "never to work with anyone else again," and Finn would produce their next three releases.
Recording completed in March 1999 and all parties involved were enormously proud of the record. "When it was done, we were so stoked. It was like a masterpiece for our band," remembered DeLonge. "We knew this was going to be the best thing we ever did." Hoppus felt the band achieved the purest, cleanest sound on the record that they had been striving for. Finn felt similarly, proud of his work on the record and believing in retrospect that the album would appeal to the masses. As the album was recorded on analog tape, the trio put enormous trust into Finn to give the record the polished pop sound they wanted, recalled DeLonge in 2012. "The Party Song" was the final song to be completed, and the three were mixing the song coincidentally when lead single "What's My Age Again?" premiered on Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ. In 2013, Hoppus referred to Enema of the State as "the heart of Blink-182's musical sensibilities," singling out "its simplicity, its purity, its singularity of purpose between the three of us."According to Barker, the album's title stemmed from DeLonge, who was worried about his diet at the time and using enemas.
At the end of recording, Finn suggested they utilize keyboardist Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., best known for his work with Beck. Hoppus was initially reluctant, noting that most of the band's fans up to that point were hardcore punk rock fans that might not be receptive to keyboard parts. In the end, the group were open to his inclusion: "They welcomed all my ideas and they were super supportive and that’s why it was so much fun working with them," Manning later remembered. For Tom Lord-Alge, the main mixing engineer on the album, the band had one goal: "Make it sound as aggressive as possible."Lord-Alge's mixes were completed at his space, South Beach Studios, located in Miami, Florida. Lastly, the album was mastered by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood.
Enema of the State is mainly considered a pop punk album and is even considered a skate punk album. According to Mike Damante of the Daily Cougar, the album "embraces the pop side of pop-punk". The songs on Enema of the State are fast-paced songs regarding "adolescent aimlessness, broken hearts and general confusion over the care and feeding of girls." Summarizing the album's content, The New York Times called Enema of the State a sampling of "ecstatic, goofy numbers about teenage uselessness, with a smattering of tender introspection." The songs are mainly autobiographical, or are inspired by stories from friends' experiences. Enema of the State largely revolves around age and maturity—"more specifically, their lack of it, their attitude toward their lack of it, or their eventual wide-eyed exploration of it." The band decided to emphasize arrangements, harmonies and melodic ideas rather than the fast-paced nature of Dude Ranch; the change was brought about by the band, rather than the label. Barker hoped to give the songs varying tempos, something missing in the group's prior recordings. "I told Mark and Tom, 'It's going to be repetitive if all our songs have the same punk-rock beat all the time. Why don't we try some different tempos?'" DeLonge noted he was open to his proposals, and responded, "Dude, I just play guitar and write melodies. You own the beats. If you have an idea, that's what you're supposed to do." DeLonge later reflected on his desire for a more "pop" sound:
Punk rock was becoming polished. NOFX [was] a punk band we grew up listening to, and they had a record called Punk in Drublic, and it was awesome. It was game-changing; it sounded good. We wanted to take it to the next level. [...] There had never been a pop-punk band that sounded like nursery rhymes on steroids, on the mainstream level at least. And that's what I used to have daydreams of. I used to think the radio could use that, could use a band that was really powerful and catchy and fast and youthful and angsty.
By May 1999, the group was nearing platinum status for Dude Ranch and sales targets were higher for Enema of the State. The Los Angeles Times ran a Sunday feature on the band two days prior to release, noting that "The musicians are sanguine about chances to repeat or exceed the sales of Dude Ranch, noting the always-shifting sands of pop culture and that they've already done better than they'd ever anticipated." Momentum began to build when US radio stations received advance copies of Enema of the State. MCA issued Enema of the State on June 1, and the release peaked at number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album chart was gripped by the Backstreet Boys' Millennium, but Enema of the State still managed to move 109,000 units that week. The band was supporting Lagwagon in Europe when MCA executives phoned the trio about rising record sales. Joey Cape, frontman of Lagwagon, remarked that "They were selling, like, 90,000 records a day [...] I was saying things like, 'What are you doing here? Go home! Why do you want to be on tour with Lagwagon right now?" At a show shortly following the release of the album, DeLonge was approached by Noodles from The Offspring to congratulate him. "He looks at me right in the eyes and he goes, 'You're next,'" remembered DeLonge, who blushed and shook off the compliment.
The major-label debut sold strongly and nearly four times as fast as Dude Ranch, and shipped gold to stores, unlike its predecessor, which took seven months to achieve that certification. Enema of the State went platinum in October 1999 and went triple platinum in January 2000; in February 2001, the album was certified five times platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America. The record performed well in international markets as well. Enema of the State went quadruple platinum in Canada and triple platinum in Australia. It peaked at number seven on the Canadian Albums Chart, but peaked the highest worldwide on the New Zealand Albums Chart (number two), where it was certified double platinum. It was also certified double platinum in Italy, platinum in the United Kingdom, and gold in six other territories (Austria, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines, and Switzerland). In Europe, the album sold over one million copies. To further promote Enema of the State, the trio made a cameo appearance in American Pie, a teen comedy released several weeks following the album release. Hoppus, DeLonge and Barker appear in a scene in which they are interrupted rehearsing to see a webcast on a computer. Music from Enema of the State was also used in the film and on its soundtrack. The cameo appearance was well-received, with New York's Nitsuh Abebe commending the common sensibility and humor between the two: "green grass, sun, swimming pools, teen boys obsessed with and mildly terrified by sex, jokes about having sex with things that are not other humans, and a healthy side of toilet-oriented gags."
In an early review, Billboard called the record "short, to the point, and bristling with attitude," and predicted it would poise the band for commercial breakthrough. In a less enthusiastic review, Rolling Stone's Neva Chonin wrote, "It's all harmless but still gnarly enough to foment the kind of anti-everything rebellion that spawned rock & roll way back in the day." Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic described it as a "fun record that's better than the average neo-punk release." Kerrang! wrote that the album includes "enough energy, attitude and cracking songs here to ensure that blink will be remembered for more than just onstage nudity." The catchy, pop sensibility of the album was praised by Stephen Thompson of The A.V. Club, describing the band as finding success within a "well-worn genre" (punk rock). The New York Times also designated the record its 'Album of the Week'. The record did have its detractors: British music publication New Musical Express (NME) gave the record a very poor review, calling the record despicable, "wholly toothless and soulless" and deriding the band as "as bad, as meaningless, as the cock-rockers and hippy wankers punk originally sought to destroy."
Jon Blisten of Beats Per Minute wrote a retrospective review of the album in 2011, regarding Enema of the State a seminal album of Generation Y and "one of those rare records that allows you to relive [adolescence], a record where every song conjures up a specific memory or emotion that you could have only felt when you were a teenager." Billboard described the album as a "classic" in a retrospective review, calling it the "catchiest batch of songs the band had ever written," and commending the leap in quality both in production and vocals in comparison to its predecessor.
The success of the album, as well as its cleaner sound and the group's appearances on MTV, caused many longtime fans to accuse the band of "selling out". Many commentators stated that the band's polished pop sound only remotely resembled punk music. Although the video for "All the Small Things" was filmed as a mockery of boy bands and teen pop, "fame [didn't] discriminate based on origin: soon the group was as famous as those it was parodying." "Blink now had the backing of a major record company ... just like the synthesized pop acts they were spoofing," said British journalist Tim Footman. "In what way were they less 'pop' than Sugar Ray and 98 Degrees?" Matt Diehl, author of the book My So-Called Punk, called the basis for satire thin: "To seasoned ears, Blink-182 sounded and looked just as manufactured as the pop idols they were poking fun at." The band faced a backlash shortly after Enema of the State was released from several punk and emo acts who wished to not be associated with their music.
Tristin Laughter, employee of Bay Area record label Lookout! Records, wrote in an issue of the influential zine Punk Planet that the band would have a genuinely negative impact on punk and accused the band of misogyny. DeLonge responded to the accusations, commenting, "I love all those criticisms, because fuck all those magazines! I hate with a passion Maximumrocknroll and all those zines that think they know what punk is supposed to be. I think it's so much more punk to piss people off than to conform to all those veganistic views". While ska veterans Blue Meanies tried to empathize ("I think they [Blink] are just trying to get in the mindset of a teenager, which means a lot of curiosity about sex,") others, such as John Lydon, frontman of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd, dismissed the band as a "bunch of silly boys ... an imitation of a comedy act."
The record proved very influential on the pop punk genre. With the release of the record, Blink-182 became celebrities and the biggest pop punk act of the era. The glossy production instantly set Blink-182 apart from the other crossover punk acts, such as Green Day. In 2011, The New York Times credited the record with "[taking] punk's already playful core and [giving] it a shiny, accessible polish," calling it "among the catchiest music of the time." Matt Diehl, author of My So-Called Punk, writes that mainstream acolytes of their sound led to profound effects on the "pop punk" genre, such as the deracination of regional scene identity—due to its wide popularity, pop punk bands became commonplace outside the genre's origins. Jon Blisten of Beats Per Minute writes that "Enema's success perpetuated pop-punk's viability on mainstream radio, which is where Blink's progeny — bands like Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, and New Found Glory — would receive a decent amount of airplay." Rolling Stone's Nicole Frehsée wrote that the album influenced emo fans, while MTV News credited the album, alongside the Get Up Kids' Something to Write Home About (1999) as pioneering emo pop, calling them "some of the scene's most influential records."
Enema of the State has been called an accurate representation of middle-class teenage life, especially at the time of its release. Entertainment Weekly called it the "perfect encapsulation of the American adolescent male mind-set circa 1999." Nitsuh Abebe of New York describes the immense popularity of the record with adolescents in an article measuring its influence: "After you figure in singles, videos, CD-R burns, copies on repeat in friends' cars and finished basements, this was apparently enough to create blanket immersion among America's twenty-some million teenagers." Alternative Press has ranked Enema of the State among Jerry Finn's top production work, and UK-based music magazine Rock Sound rated it number 2 on their list of "101 Modern Classics" in 2012, writing, "Enema didn't just bring pop-punk to the masses, it marked a complete shift in how music television, radio and the world at large viewed it." In 2014, Ian Cohen of Pitchfork noted the album's extensive influence: "In a literal sense, many indie bands evolved not from Velvet Underground or Sonic Youth, but Smash, Dookie, or Enema of the State—records that served as beginner's manuals and inspired musicians in great numbers to buy their first guitar," said Ian Cohen of Pitchfork Media in 2014. Likewise, Scott Russo of the band Unwritten Law remarked that, following the album's release, he would receive CDs from fans that mimicked the glossy sound the album made famous. "It was revolutionary, it was equally as revolutionary as Green Day when it hit, they just didn't get the credit," Russo remarked in 2009.
In 2014, Alternative Press ran a special in celebration of the album's fifteenth anniversary, which contains reflections from members of bands influenced by the album, including The Maine, The Story So Far, Mayday Parade, and Yellowcard, among others. "When I heard how massive and epic Enema was for the first time, my mind was blown. It definitely made me want to be a better songwriter and make bigger-sounding records," said Ryan Key of Yellowcard. In the article, the magazine credits the album with "single-handedly changed the face of mainstream rock." Property of Zack also gave the album a fifteenth anniversary feature, commenting, "Enema of the State has become the single most important album in our overarching community since its release in 1999. It is more important, to this current generation and the one preceding it, than Dookie, or Smash, or whatever you want to put on that pedestal — and it will likely never give up that spot at the top of the standings."

2019.05.30 01:49 tophybedophy My argument for why Jimmy Butler is Dallas's actual number 1 free agent target and may have already agreed to a deal (Evidence Included).

TL;DR: Windhorst said secret deals got done at the combine. Jimmy was at the combine. Jimmy, Luka,Wesley, Matthews (Marquette teammate of Jimmy former Maverick) and KP all appear to be in Dallas at the same time.
So I just had my crazy fan theory from mavericks about Jimmy Butler discussed on the Locked on Mavericks podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/locked-on-mavericks-daily-podcast-on-the-dallas-mavs/id1153678569?i=1000440014910). So I thought I would repost my thoughts on nba to see if I could get any traction from non-maverick fans.
So my original post was as follows please feel free to skip to the bottom to see new points if you have read this before,
"I believe through subtle hints the Mavs have tipped their hand that Jimmy Butler is actually their number 1 target. Below is my list of reasons, including links to the speculative evidence I have found.
  1. Brian Windhorst's speculative quote concerning the Mavericks and Jimmy Butler's Instagram post to the city of Philadelphia.
The main take away for me from the Windhorst's quote was concerning the combine. Specifically, "All right, first off the Combine in Chicago last week is now where a lot of NBA business gets done. I promise you there were deals agreed on at the combine last week."
The Jimmy Butler post I am referring to was made on May 16th when he posted a picture of himself in a Philly jersey with the following quote, "to Philly. and my teammates. THANK YOU." https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxi70sbhsZe/ My main take away from the above points is the date of the post (May 16th) and of the draft combine (May 15 - May 19th).
My argument is the Instagram post was made after agreeing in principle to a deal with the Mavericks at the combine, which we know Jimmy attended https://imgur.com/a/R6t8Cnu. Brian Windhorst found out the deal occurred but did not want to give away his sources. Thus we received the very ambiguous quote from Windhorst concerning the Mavericks.
  1. Jimmy Butler, Luka, and Kristaps flying to Dallas at the same time.
This has been mentioned on the subreddit before and thus I want to give credit to Lollipop_Trae's post here, https://np.reddit.com/Mavericks/comments/bsuth6/coincidence_what_do_you_guys_think/.
For the Synopsis, Jimmy (https://247sports.com/nba/mavericks/Board/103445/Contents/Jimmy-Butler-Instagram-shows-Dallas-132231414/), Kristaps (https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dallas-mavericks/mavericks/2019/05/22/kristaps-porzingis-back-dallas-hand-ok-mavericks-satisfied-bar-fight-case-wrong-place-wrong-time) and Luka (https://np.reddit.com/Mavericks/comments/bs9hms/looks_like_luka_is_also_a_pretty_decent_socce?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app) have all flown back to Dallas at the same time. This coincides with the belief that a deal is already complete with Jimmy, and now a meeting is taking place for the new teammates to get acquainted.
  1. Maverick's podcast network detailing what the media is allowed to know about free agency plans.
Numerous time on all three of the Maverick owned podcast (the 4 pointer, numbers on the board and the ceiling is the roof) they have mentioned that any media coverage you hear concerning the Mavericks and personal changes are false.
Specifically, on The ceiling is the Roof, they mentioned that they knew there was a chance Kristaps was coming to Dallas because the Mavericks were not on the list of teams interested in KP provided by Woj. In line with this thinking, all of the media coverage that has specifically noted the Mavericks are not interested in Jimmy Butler (https://np.reddit.com/Mavericks/comments/btzjlv/fwiw_mike_fisher_just_denied_everything_about_the/) is a sign that they are actually making him their number 1 priority and are putting out false info to create a smoke screen.
When taking the three above points into consideration, the fact that Butler is a perfect on-court fit, and he is from Texas all signs point to him as the Mavericks actual number 1 free agent target."
In addition to these points, one additional piece of information surfaced in the comments of the original post that might help answer the question of why Jimmy would pick Dallas.
  1. The suspicious link between Wesley Mathews and Jimmy Butler.
It is now known that Wesley Mathews was also in Dallas during the same time Luka, Jimmy and Kristaps were in Dallas (https://np.reddit.com/Mavericks/comments/bs9hms/looks_like_luka_is_also_a_pretty_decent_socce?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app).
Furthermore, Wesley Mathews has referred to Jimmy as his little brother (https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dallas-mavericks/mavericks/2016/01/15/matthews-surprised-butlers-53-point-outburst).
My belief is that the Mavericks are planning to unite Jimmy Butler and Wesley Mathews in Dallas. I could also imagine that Wes Mathews views concerning Dallas (https://www.mavs.com/wesley-matthews-touched-by-tribute-but-hasnt-changed-a-bit-with-pacers/) could help explain why Jimmy would want to come here and is probably excited about it.

I have no social media outside Reddit, so whoever linked them my post thank you so much. If you could also let Isaac and Nick know that I have been part of the raccoon squad before Luka was drafted, love the show and was very happy to hear my ideas discussed on the show I would greatly appreciate. Top 25 Animal Liberation Content Creators
This is a medium length run down of different animal liberation content creators. It’s still a work in progress as I want to give each creator one line descriptions, also thumbnails won’t always be 1:1 as I switch some out over time.
For more categories like campaigns, events & forums, resources and other art & media see the sidebar on me blog.
For longer pages with fleshed out descriptions of each creator or example content see top 25 animal liberation:
For a shorter page of just the names sorted by sorted by number of views and followers see campaign media analytics.
If this post gets some traction I'll create some straw polls for people to vote on who they think has the most important to them type of vegan advocacy for various content, then create lists of the top 25 people's choice.

Just my website's sidebar of links I've been working on.
Thought I'd suggest one of the mods could create a sticky reading list for the sub-reddit like they have on breadtube?
And if there's anything you like from here you can copy and paste it in. I've merged anyone who's both vegan and anarchist/socialist into simply the vegan list, but you might want to have a separate veganarchist category, or a shorter only veganarchists content list.
People can add suggestions and have the inevitable debates about people to boot off the list.

2018.04.14 23:09 HokageEzio Why Fizdale is a top Knicks candidate, and what both sides would get out of it.

I don't plan to do this for every candidate, but I was interested in seeing what Fizdale's system is, why people should be interested, and why he got fired so quickly into his tenure. Here are things I saw:
I already made a post about this, but Fizdale has come out publicly talking about how his firing was disappointing because he takes it upon himself to set a good example for future black assistant coaches in the league to rise up through the ranks. He released an article naming 10 black assistant coaches he thinks are ready to get a chance, as well as going on the Woj Podcast to talk about some of the stereotypes black assistants get in the league. It's already somewhat shocking to hear certain sports figures talk about issues of race in general, but it is especially shocking when talking about such a young coach who has everything to lose in a sense if certain people don't like what he says (as opposed to Pop or Lebron saying similar things).
This is important because the Knicks have the first black president/GM duo in league history. I find it incredibly hard to believe that this significance would not play any factors in allowing for the trio to make a stronger connection like Perry and Mills seemed to want in their press conference.
Jokes aside, he also stays working. Here is a story from when the Grizzlies lost last playoffs. His wife had to tell him to walk the dogs because he immediately went back to work for Game 7, a game that was never going to be played after the Spurs won Game 6 and the series.
“She told me, ‘Go walk the dogs,’” Fizdale said with laughter. “I was really planning for Game 7. The season went by so fast.”
According to the players, he always relates things to how they were for the Heat to try to give them the mindset of that championship pedigree. He even took it upon himself to go to Warriors practices to try to learn.
There were a lot of people who seemed to really have a thing against his rotations and a lot of people were upset that he made Marc so upset benching him, but there was a decently surprising (at least to me) amount of people who seemed so willing to trade Marc and that it was more of him having too much pull in the organization as the franchise GOAT of a small market team. The general vibe I got was "Marc got benched for playing poorly but it could have been handled better, Fizdale is alright but the media is blowing it out of proportion, and fuck Chris Wallace (the GM)".
He seems to only be concerned with figuring out what works best, and he has the attitude to assure you he couldn't care less what the fans think of his rotation if he thinks he can find something that works (for whatever that's worth to you). Don't believe me, ask him yourself.
Obviously it doesn't hurt to have 3 of some of the top NBA players of all time on your team, but Bosh's evolution into becoming a big man shooting 3's can definitely be credited in part to Fizdale. It could even be argued that Bosh was ahead of his time in his later years before his forced retirement due to illness. He tried to do the same with Marc Gasol, and it seems Marc simply wasn't as accepting of the role (many Grizzlies fans seemed to be somewhat upset that Marc would not post up anymore because he was always made to shoot 3's with no rebounders). Here is an article talking about how they tried to draw up a wide open shot for Zach Randolph against the Spurs. And here is another article showing how he gets certain people open for 3 point attempts. Now replace Marc with KP and see how appealing a scheme like this could be. The weakness of Fizdale's scheme seems to have always been rebounding, even dating back to Miami (20th in offensive rebounding with the Heat in 2013), while Memphis has always prided themselves on Grit N Grind in areas like rebounding.
This was a great rant for a brand new head coach. He fully supports his guys, and he shows it. Of course, he got fined to hell and back for this rant, but his team all chipped in to pay it. This is how you gain the respect of the locker room and players and get them to buy in completely. Plus his personality just seems like it would vibe with the city well, to me.
TL;DR
Personally, the issue with Fizdale and the Grizzlies to me seems more like Fizdale trying to impose his style of play on a team and organization that already had an identity (Grit N Grind) and it was simply too different of identities to mesh well, especially with Gasol. That team is older and less likely to be accepting of change, as opposed to a young team with no identity. He runs a modern offensive scheme that involves getting people open to shoot 3's and has been doing it since before Curry set the league on fire, which would open up a whole load of possibilities for KP. He's open to learning the game in whatever way he can, aware that he does not know everything. He brings a winning and sharp attitude and as Lebron put it, he doesn't take any BS. His rotations can get weird, but it also seems like they get weird for a specific purpose of trying to find the best fit before the playoffs rather than getting weird simply because he doesn't know what he's doing. He seems to be the exact candidate Perry and Mills are looking for in somebody who takes physical development, player development, and analytics into account while coaching, while also giving Fizdale a connection for something he cares greatly about with blazing a trail for future black coaches.
I'm not going to sit here and proclaim Fizdale is the perfect candidate, or that I even went through all of the candidates accordingly to find the best fit. I'm not a general manager, I'm just a guy who was interested in a coaching candidate who (according to Woj) is one of the leading guys for the job. And I think you all should be at the very least heavily intrigued by what he could potentially do for the team, whether he's your pick or not.

2018.03.16 14:44 louiseber [Updated] How many Irish Subs are there really?

E: 2 hours it took for this to need a new one added - New Count 619 620 623 625 632
This time last year I made this post and had uncovered 500+ Irish related subs on reddit, from the abandoned to the large.
Below is the updated list, now including some of the Discord Servers & useful other external links (although not counted) and the count stands at 618 619 620 623 625 632 plus some redirects/banned subs/karma farms. I have also included some of the American Subs that could be mistaken for Irish just for information.
As you can see from the notations many, many of them are inactive but it's more about finding as many of them as possible than anything else.
If anyone knows of, or can find, new ones not listed below throw them in the comments and I'll add them to the list. A rich vein of new ones are towns etc, people from Ireland (bands etc) and products.
Notes:
To anyone who owns a sub...put a description in the bleedin' sidebar!
If you find a sub you might like to resurrect you can head over the /redditrequest and request to take it over. See their sidebar for full rules and process.

2018.03.07 11:09 AspieGamer13 SMB Weekly (2017/02/26-2017/03/04)

Edition 121
SMB Weekly will be a weekly newsletter posted sometime after Midnight EDT/EST Monday* covering things Monday-Sunday. If I miss anything in the newsletter, please post below and I'll add it in. The date format is yeamonth/day, to prevent any dispute between US and UK standards. If a video release is borderline between two days, I'm using Eastern Time, because that's my time zone. I'm trying to make the time zones more universally understandable. The newsletter will be updated sometime after Wednesday's podcast, likely before Thursday morning. Stream schedule copied as posted on Mixer, with both UTC and PST/PDT (it has been pointed out that I should NOT be using UTC and GMT interchangeably). Pacific Time is the "base" time for most streams.
NOTICE: DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME IS COMING UP! The US switches on the 11th (except AZ). The UK switches on the 25th. Except Tea Time, all streams are based on Pacific Time.
US Daylight Savings change: All times outside the US move BACK 1 hour & Tea Time for the US moves FORWARD 1 hour.
UK Daylight Savings change: All times outside the US move FORWARD 1 hour & Tea Time fot the US moves BACK 1 hour.

2018.01.29 12:45 Pseudo-Q [Discussion] Spring 2018 - Stats-based Projections - Week 3 Onwards

Introduction

Hello,
You may remember me from Spring 2017, where I presented my projections for future weeks based on the stats for the current split, alongside Riot's estimates, and the actual results for each current week. Back then, I didn't start publishing my projections until after week 3 had ended. Trends are more reliable after 3 weeks - teams start figuring each other out and establish themselves within their respective regions, and upsets/outliers are offset by previous data - making projections a whole lot more reliable.
This split, there seem to be more people bravely producing predictions, tier lists, podcasts, and blogs from week 1 - all offering guidance for the coming week. Compared to previous splits, the return to a best-of-1 format, and the massive shift in roster changes make it all the more difficult to form an opinion on a team's/player's standard - current rosters are unproven, and the sample size of data can be from half to a third as large as the previous best-of-3 format.
This split looks to be lining up to be one where a lot of people could be wrong more than usual, so I may as well weigh in slightly earlier than normal and be wrong more than usual too.
In future (for the rest of this split), I'll forego an introduction, and attempt to make my post less verbose.

Projections

My projections forecast to the end of the split within a doc.google spreadsheet, and are continually updated with each new week of match results.

You will find 4 sheets (2 recently added, see the comment link below):
It's important to note that my projections are a display of what would happen if a team's/player's form continues as it has to date (within the current split). They are calculated purely from the data on the FantasyLCS Stats page. I will not taint them with my own opinion. And, as such, they are intended to be used in conjunction with your own intuition. They cannot predict improvements nor declines in form.
Essentially, the basis for my calculations is which teams offer the most deaths to their opponents, and which teams acquire the most kills. It's only a little more complicated than that (see the Calculations section below) but the main benefit is that stats are cross-referenced with schedules, so that a forecast of future weeks can be seen and updated automatically with each new set of results.
Good luck!

Calculations

This post details the calculations.

The Link

It is the same link each week - it's a living document. You may see me updating it as you're viewing it, especially around matches, but (as my region is EU) I typically won't be online as the NA matches on Sunday are wrapping up, so I won't finalise the spreadsheet until Monday - at which point I'll publish a new discussion.

Red Text

Red player names means they have been substituted at some point this split, or may be in danger of not playing a full week. This means that their stats are not necessarily as indicative of their form in comparison to other players. Also note that I don't have inside information on who is in or out each week/match, so don't rely on this being gospel.
  • Keane
  • Vander

Omitted Players

If I don't have enough data, or if a temporary substitute is no longer playing, I'll omit them from my projections.
  • Boris
  • Fly

Riot Estimates

Riot estimates are manually entered, and sometimes updated during the week by Riot, so please let me know if you notice that any of the estimates for the coming week are wrong. They're only there as a comparison and as a record, and don't factor as part of my calculations.
